Welcome
I live and work in Gateshead's lower Derwent Valley in the northeast of England and take my inspiration from the semi-rural area of varied habitat on my own doorstep, rich in bird, animal and insect life, and also home to the spectacular bird of prey the red kite, reintroduced here since 2004.
I work in a variety of styles, from simply composed, colourful watercolour portraits in a traditional manner to a combination of painting and/or photography with digital imagery to develop colourful, vibrant compositions in a more contemporary style.
This technique also lends itself well to illustrational work, most recently in a series of interpretation panels and a public art project (pictured) at the local Tesco store commissioned by the RSPB/Northern Kites Project and in the popular Twisted Nature wildlife cartoon concept currently running in the prestigious monthly BBC Wildlife magazine.
Away from wildlife, I hone my observational skills by taking commissions in people and pet portraits, which have proved very popular on a local scale.
I am slowly building a professional reputation through local opportunities, arts and craft fairs, exhibitions and commissions through word of mouth, combining the things I most enjoy in life; wildlife, humour and art.
See GALLERIES for examples of all the above, please enjoy exploring the site, and feel free to make comment or enquiries.
